SEPY FEST

Social Engagement Program for Youth (SEPY) was born from brainstorming ideas to involve young adults in interactive thought exercises. And in tandem with SEPY was conceived a new practise in applied theatre, a methodology by means of which young people would think aloud about social problems and seek to understand where they took root. Further, they would seek ways to resolve them, at best, or to understand the many facets to it, at the least.

12 NOTES
Narratives in Hindustani Classical Music

Ontology

Osage uses a palatal map of the 12 musical notes for ensuring an objective – and falsifiable – methodology for learning the fundamentals of classical music. In this heuristic approach, each musical note gets its meridian, latitude and a reproducible shape, hence an ontology that traditionalists have denied them for a long, long time. This works very well with both beginners and older students who are struggling with locating their notes in the vocal-palatal chambers. No more the tyranny of “sing as I do” without ever understanding what it means!

Syntax

A secondary level music learning programme that incorporates both Ontology and techniques of meditation, breathing and voicing to fine tune their singing notes and join them together to produce musically sensible melodic units – consciously and fully aware of the notes they are negotiating, which is definitely more than just singing.

Narratives

Although the raga is a leitmotif of all Osage learning initiatives, it gets to be emphasised while advanced level students engage with building raga-based narratives, making use of foundational techniques for integrating musical elements.
